Dispel the Gloom

Walking the property surrounding the Austin Aboriginal Instruments workshop in West Austin, we found the tree that gave its timber for this instrument standing tall well after death. A sun-bleached spire, the trunk shone bright, illuminating stones and saplings hidden in the shadows of a small glade. Now the sounds of this proud instrument recall the legacy of the tree’s final days: give voice to its music and dispel the gloom.
